CC Morgan bartering for pistol

I have an '81 and an '82 CC Morgan....I been thinking of trading one of them for a pistol. I need ideas on best way to go about putting the offer out there.... Should I put the offer to trade for the right pistol on the "barter" section of craigslist, or go to some gun stores and ask if they have a message board on their wall where could I tack up my offer?

For the '81 I would like to trade for a firearm that retails around $500.
For the '82 I would like to trade for a firearm that retails around $300.
I would trade one and keep one. Just not sure which one will be asked for trade, and what will be offered.
The Morgans are both in the "Nixon" holders and cases, with the paperwork and the original envelope boxes they were mailed out in. I'm only second in the pedigree.

I do not want to trade for a run of the mill pistol, but since I am trading a real american collectible, I would like to get a firearm that is NICE.
Any suggestions? Is craigslist my best shot at finding the right barter deal?
I'd rather not sell on ebay.
The actual trade meet-up would be agreed on at a gun store of their choice.

thanks!

Re: CC Morgan bartering for pistol

I skimmed the terms of use on craigslist...what is their firearm policy? I read thru the sections and could not find the word firearm or gun on their TOU.

Can I ask for a firearm as the "bartered for" item? Or do they delete all firearm and gun posts?

Or is it just common knowledge guns cannot be mentioned?? I dunno. I did a search on guns and got spray guns, paintball guns, toys....but no guns. But nothing on the TOU or their FAQ with prohibitions...unless I keep missing that part.

Why not just sell my coin and buy what I want, you might ask. Cause I think I MIGHT get something of better value and worth IF I find the right person to trade: that is always the case when you find someone who has something you want and you have something they want. A principle of horsetrading.

Of course I am no legal eagle so I might not be considering the problems in a trade involving firearms.

It's why I'm asking. : )

The commies at Craigslist won't allow it. They'll zap any gun related ad pronto.

I'd suggest joining www.ar15.com and posting it there in the want to trade section of the Equipment Exchange. That's about your best bet to actually do a trade, as ARFCOM has a boatload of traffic.

More than likely, your best bet is to sell the coin(s) and buy the pistol. Barter isn't easy, that's why folks use money.

Problem with me selling the CC and getting the FRN's is I would talk myself into buying more bullion instead, and not get the pistol. I have a hard time justifying buying anything BUT bullion nowadays whenever I have extra cash. I have rifles, just not a good pistol.
So I thought trading would be one way to get that pistol in my hands instead of another gold bullion coin.

Anyway, I'll see what that site can do for me. Probably not much, since I need to trade local.

thanks for your input.

cheers!

You did not state where you live, thats cool. But you have to realize you are not going to get a handgun legal pretty much wherever you live without paperwork.
I want a CC Morgan so bad it makes my teeth hurt, but I will not hand over an undocumented pistol to get one. From what I haven been told, jail sucks!

haha...yeah.

Documentation is not a problem to me if it is not a problem on the other end of the deal.

If trading is too much of a paperwork hassle, who wants to bother, though.

I guess i could try a trade at a pawn shop if I make it clear I am looking for an equal value trade and not a pawn shop offer on my coin(s). Again, kind of unlikely, since the pawn shops are not numismatic traders with buyers lined up. But i see some nice firearms coming thru some of the pawn shops where I am.

Plus, I'd like my Morgans to go to a good collector...I'd feel bad if they end up at a pawn shop.
